About Us

Sassafras Nuts is a commercial chestnut farm located at Sassafras in the Budawang Ranges,50 km south west of Nowra N.S.W. We have been growing premium quality nuts for more than 25 years.

Our farm gate is just two hours and forty minutes drive from Sydney; ninety minutes from Wollongong; two hours from Canberra and forty minutes from Nowra. We welcome visitors and groups to the farm during the autumn harvest to purchase nuts.

We can supply you with nuts already picked and graded with price depending on grade and variety.

You can also pick your own chestnuts for $10/kg. A great activity to consider during the school holidays

For large orders (>50kg) please telephone to make an order.

Please note that no pets are permitted on the property.

BOOK A DAY AT THE FARM

You do not need to book if you are coming on the weekend unless you are a large group or coming for a picnic.
Anyone coming on a weekday must book at least the night before.

Have the 2020 bushfires affected your property?

> The farm is back up and running and it is looking like a bumper chestnut crop this season.

> We will have a reduced production of walnuts for the next few years until our newly planted walnut block comes into production.

> We encourage you to visit our farm and support local businesses.

What are you doing about COVID 19 in relation to your business?

> We are a COVID SAFE Business and have policies in place in the interest of the health and well being of all our customers and staff. Do not visit the farm if you have symptoms or have just returned from overseas (within the self isolation period) or come from a COIVD Hotspot..

Spanish roasting our chestnuts,

Because we want you to have the very best experience roasting our chestnuts, we have imported a high quality steel pans from Spain. You can purchase the pans from our farm shop ($25.00 inc gst each), or order on-line by sending an email (additional price for postage to be advised).

We grow industry recognised premium quality chestnut varieties. Most of these are easy peel varieties that are in high demand by customers. Our chestnut varieties include Morena; Red Spanish; Purtons Pride; Bouche de Betizac; De Coppi and Sassafras Red.
